Finally! I got my Hallowe'en cake order! And it's Nightmare Before Christmas related - what more could I want?
I was very happy to do this order, although a little nervous. But it actually turned out to be a lot easier than I anticipated That's not to say it didn't take two long afternoon-evenings of hard work though!
I was uncertain whether to blacken Jack's mouth, but any approach might have ruined the face and I did NOT want that. But I felt that the indentations were deep enough to allow me to escape filling them in - in a good light, they cast shadows Also, if you look at real Jack from the film, he doesn't actually have a blacked in mouth anyway...
I had fun doing the Jack O Lantern side, which I feel is very striking. And the little gravestones and pumpkins were fun too
Inside we have sandwiched layers of vanilla-chocolate-vanilla cake, the vanilla dyed orange for a cool striped effect. There's chocolate buttercream in there too, and vanilla buttercream just beneath the mountain of icing it took to cover the cake
